2012AdventCalendarScarf Day 14

Finally got our Christmas tree
Hello,

I am continuing my posts about the 2012 Advent Calendar Scarf by Kristen Benecken, who is wollkistchens on Ravelry.

Day 14 is a pretty easy day.  The only challenging stitches are knit 4  stitches together for which Kristen
uses the symbol 4,  and knit 4 stitches together through the back loop,  ∫

She recommends that you use a crochet hook if you have trouble with these stitches.  I have a little tutorial at the end of this post showing both stitches with knitting needles and with a crochet hook.

Here is what the Day 14 section looks like:
This is a 4 row repeat. I really love it.  So simple, yet so pretty.

Stitch tutorial:
Knit 4 stitches together, k4tog, 4

There are 4 stitches on the left needle

Insert the right needle as for a regular knit stitch through all 4 stitches.

YO and bring needle back to the front through all 4 stitches (this can be tough if you are a tight knitter)
Finish the stitch as usual, and you will have 4 stitches knitted together.

K4tog using a crochet hook:

Insert the crochet hook as through the 4 stitches as though it is your right needle.
YO

Pull through all 4 stitches to the front.
Take the new stitch off the left needle, and

Put it on the right needle.

Knit 4 through the back loop, k4tbl,

Insert the right needle through all 4 stitches from right to left behind the left needle.

YO and bring the needle to the front.
Slip the stitch off the left needle.

If you have trouble bringing the needle back to the front without losing the YO, you can do this stitch with a crochet hook.

Insert the crochet hook through 4 stitches from right to left behind the left needle.
YO and bring the hook through the 4 stitches to the front.
Take the stitch off the left needle and put it on the right needle.

That's it.

Peace.
Yours,
f1bercat
shaping the planet with Day 14.
It smells wonderful
