Autism Speaks
Hello!
Yesterday, I walked with my sister, her daughter, and friends in the Autism Speaks Walk at the old El Toro Marine Base in Southern California. The base was decommissioned years ago and is supposed to be recreated as the Great Park. It's mostly just a big flat open area with old runways. Perfect for a large group walk.
People raised money for their groups prior to the event, then just showed up and walked the route together. Some groups brought signs:
Some wore hats,
or special T Shirts.
Here is our group:
We had knitwear!
I did not make that hat. Not that there's anything wrong with it.
We got started
The line of walkers quickly stretched out along the runway route.
There were entertainers to encourage us.
Volunteers guided our path.
And, thank goodness, a short cut to the 2 mile route
(which we took).
Volunteers cheered as we approached the finish line.
Even Storm Troopers helped out.
Be open to the people around you. Embrace differences.
Stay safe and well.
Yours,
f1bercat
shaping the planet one step at a time.
