Guest Blogger from Portland

Baby bobcat at the Portland Zoo

Hello Everyone!

I have reached Portland State University today on my exercise bike (virtually),

and am turning my blog over to my daughter, Moogie, who is going to take us on a Virtual tour of her favorite places near the University.  Moogie is Not a knitter, so there will be no knitting today, just lots of fun places.

She is winding up her first year at the University, and was a bit busy with papers, and studying for finals, but she ran around taking photos and sent me a quick email with descriptions of what she loves about Portland, Oregon.

Here is the map of the places we are visiting:

A.  Portland State University

Food carts! these are on fourth but they're all over the city and they're great. One bad thing about Portland is a lot of places only take cash and that applies to the food carts but its totally worth it.

The Willamette river is pretty gross when you're right up next to it but walking along the water front is beautiful, there are some great lawns to lay out on too.

B. Obviously no used (or new) book store in Portland can compare to Powell's but this hole in the wall is on 3rd and Stark and you can't go in looking for something but it has some great old books if you take the time to walk around it

C. Valentine's is a bar right by 3rd and Burnside, it's pretty small inside but has nice outdoor seating. The best thing about it though is that it has live music almost every night.

D. Right across from Valentines, and a lot of other bars, Voodoo Doughnut is a place you have to go at least once.

speaks for itself

E. Church of Elvis is on Couch st in Chinatown, built into the wall of a building. It's a cool place to go just to check it out.

F. Backspace Cafe is the host of the weekly Portland poetry slam, it also has arcade games as well as computers in the back for mmo games. it's a huge space and the slams are great, it also has the best chips and salsa in the city.

Found a knitting store! its on Hawthorne right by my favorite food carts: the Potato Champ Group. Don't know anything about it but I thought my mom would appreciate it. (Happy Knits)

G. Super blurry but its the Avalon Theater, costs $2.75 to get in (cash only) but it's a nickel  arcade with tons of fun old games, ski ball and air hockey as well as racing and fighting games, its also a movie theater!

H. Obviously the best book store I've ever been to, if you go on the week days you can avoid a lot of the tourists (even if you are a tourist) and if you take your time looking for books you can get almost anything for under 5 dollars, they also have author visits all the time.I saw Augusten Burroughs and he was amazing.

I. Thrift store on ninth by Pioneer Square, its got a lot of great jewelry as well as vintage clothes

soooo I could go on and on also mention the montage restaurant, every day music, and the living room theater

This is f1bercat again:
If you are wondering, I knitted  5.6 miles today on the bike,  and walked for another .5 miles (I brought The Game of Thrones to read on the treadmill, and it worked! ) for a total of 222.62 miles knitted.

Thank you, Moogie, for guest blogging about Portland.  I am so happy that you love going to school there, but don't love it too much!  I miss you.

Stay safe and well.
Yours,
f1bercat
