Eastside Knitters Celebrate Boxing Day

Hello:

I heard a lot of cawing this morning, looked out and there was a murder of crows (that is the name for a flock of crows.  Don't you love it?) in my front yard.   Actually, the above photo is of our neighbor's yard, because when I went outside to try to take a photo of the birds, they all flew across the street.  It was so weird.  Not only were there a ton of them on our grass, but when they flew away, a bunch went over my head as there had been a lot on the roof, too.

Very weird. I felt like I was in The Birds.

Except that they didn't attack.

Tonight, I met up with my Eastside Stitchers at Crossroads Mall in Bellevue, as we do every Wednesday night.  We had a smaller group tonight, only needed one table, as some people are out of town, and others were celebrating Boxing Day.

Ok, enough about who was not there, and on to who WAS there.

Hrvdmnky has finished her Pagona  by Stephen West, with just a few inches of yarn to spare.

She bound off tonight.

This washed out photo does not begin to catch the beauty of her yarn.


Wajai was working on some new socks.  She is using the Shur'tugal pattern by Alice Yu.  This beautiful sock pattern uses twisted stitches and traveling stitches. The yarn is Renew Wool by Universal Yarn.  It uses 35% repurposed wool reclaimed from the mill.

2-at-a-time on 2 Circular needles.  I almost always use 2-at-a-time magic loop, and Hrvdmnky said that she likes to make socks 1-at-a-time on dpns.  Go Diversity!

VanessaPolo has started a new hat, Habitat, by Jared Flood (Redbird1's boyfriend).

She brought a friend from across the Lake (Washington) to join us tonight, Fincharm.  She was knitting one of VanesaPolo's designs, the Garter Stitch Keyhole Scarf.

Later on, the two brought out Owls sweaters, by Kate Davies.  They are knitting them in a mini-KAL.

Colleen was knitting a charity scarf for the Bellevue Y.

She was wearing her Irish Hiking Scarf.  The cable work is lovely.

Since she had finished her shawl, Hrvdmnky began crocheting a cowl in a yarn, a merino/silk blend from Fresh from the Cauldron, called "Poseidon."

She had her yarn and hook in a beautiful project bag from Second Avenue Swag, on etsy.com.

That's all for tonight.  I won't be able to meet with the group next week... boo hoo.  But on January 5, I will be celebrating St. Distaff's Day with NwRSA (Northwest Regional Spinners Association) in  Everett, WA at Cavelero Mid High School, in Lake Stevens, WA.

Eastside Stitchers Finish Projects

Hello,

Tonight was the regular Wednesday meet up of the Eastside Stitchers at Crossroads Mall in Bellevue, WA.  We are continuing to grow as a group, and took up 2 tables again tonight.

Who was there and what were they knitting?

MsWiz has made some great progress on her Sheepish by Alana Dakos.  She has finished the body and is ready to pick up the neck.

Really, this sweater is going to be adorable.

One of our newer members came tonight and brought her sister.  Choclatier07 was knitting some fingerless gloves, the Blue Wild-Indigo Mitts by Tamara Moots.  She is using Premier Yarns Serenity Sock Weight yarn in Lavender Topaz.

Her sister, A, our newest group member, was working on a scarf in super bulky yarn.

GwenS was working on a Darkside Cowl in Malabrigo (surprise surprise) Worsted.  The colorway has the great name of "Hummingbird."  GwenS got this yarn in the Malabrigo group's destash super cheaply.

 Redbird1 was trying to finish up a beautiful Jeweled Cowl  by Sachiko Uemura in Malabrigo Lace, in Black.  GwenS knitted this beautiful cowl last year, but all my photos of Gwen's cowl were horrible.  I think I got a better photo of Redbird1's tonight.

Skeinherder was knitting another Purled Christmas Tree.  This pattern, by Anna Sudo, is a free Ravelry download.

Skeinherder brought her first tree to let us use as our centerpiece tonight.

Wajio was just starting some Toe-up socks. But she was mainly working on gauge, tonight.

Wajai's big news was her yarn.  She was recently on a trip to Australia and New Zealand.  The yarn she bought while down under, and shipped home, had arrived.  She brought some to Show and Tell.  The most amazing yarn she brought was part Possum.  Not the O'possum we have here in the United States.  This possum is a major pest and an ecological disaster in New Zealand.  I don't know much about that, but the yarn from it's fur is really amazingly soft.

Tara1682 was working on a pair of fingerless mitts, the Straightforward Mitts by Simone Draeger.  Tara was using up her skein of Periwinkle Sheep yarn in (what has to be one of my favorite names, ever) Mallards by the Boathouse.

Chockelet was knitting once again on her Summer Lace Scarf.  She got the pattern and the beautiful Swan's Island Yarn at Mrs. Hudson's Yarn and Teas in Bellingham, WA.

Hvrdmnky has dropped down 2 needle sizes, and is making nice progress on her Pagona Shawl by Stephen West.

Just before the mall closed, Chockelet finished and bound off her Summer Lace Scarf!

It is truly lovely.  I vow to never make fun of Chockelet's lack of progress, again.  At least for a week.

Good night!  It's The Hobbit tomorrow.  I can't wait!  We are going to the midnight show.
