I Got Legs!

I think I'm running out of good titles.  Or maybe the flu is making me slow.  As a writer, I'm going with the later. But there is no denying, I Got Legs!

I have finished the legs on my Subtle Socks (as I am calling them).  I'm using the Lyra's Socks pattern by DeusXMachina on Ravelry.  They are based on the main character from Phillip Pullman's His Dark Materials Trilogy.  I am knitting them in Miss Babs Yummy Superwash in the Squash Blossom colorway.  I've been posting photos in both SolidSocks and Sock Knitters Anonymous in Ravelry, since the color is for Solid Socks (yellow this month) and the pattern is "literary" which is SKA's theme. I keep getting complements on the color from people in SKA.  I think that after winter, people are so ready to knit in something light.  And not only does this yarn feel super wonderful, but you can see the stitch definition is terrific.  I still consider myself a beginning/intermediate knitter.  But, wow, these socks are gorgeous.

This is one of the reasons I am glad I joined these two sock knitting groups.  I am pushed to finish a pair of socks every month.  I am pushed to try new patterns and techniques.  I am pushed to knit in colors I might be too timid to try.  And since Solid Socks has featured dyers, I am also trying new yarns.  That's another reason I joined the Harry Potter Knitting & Crochet House Cup  Group. I don't think I will be "sorted" into a house this "term."  (3 month period), but just reading the classes/challenges offered, will push me to try new things.

Still coughing on the couch with a bit of a headache.  My son has the lead in the high school play this weekend, and I hope the cough is over.  I don't want to hack my way through his performance.

Still Sick 2

Still too sick to ride the bike, did not even try to walk around the block although it was not raining this morning, just gray.  It did rain pretty hard for a bit this afternoon.  Anyway, all my photos today are dark from the clouds.

My cat is much better.

My husband, the Doc, is not.

And, I am missing my stitch buds at Eastside Stitchers!  I really wanted to drag myself to group tonight, but did NOT want to pass this flu on to the gang.

Since I was sick, I finished the taxes, YAY!  and knit something sunny and extra yummy to take my mind off the coughing and nose blowing.

I finished the rolled cuff and first repeat of my Lyra Socks by DXM Patterns or DeusXMachina on .Ravelry.  The yarn is Superwash Yummy Sock by Miss Babs in Squash Blossom.  And wow, this yarn is simply luscious to knit.

I am really enjoying these socks.  The stitch definition is amazing.  And, after knitting so many darker yarns this winter, the yellow is a piece of sunshiny joy.  So easy on my eyes.  I can actually count where I am.

I hope to finish up the legs this week and be on the heels by the weekend, early next week at the latest anyway.

Again, it's and early bedtime for me.  I'm still super tired every day, but going to bed earlier and earlier.  Oh well, the flu stinks.

No Bike Ride Today... Too Sick With The Flu

I'm dying.  Ok, I'm not really dying, but I feel like it.  I have the flu for the first time in about 20 years and it feels horrible!  I'm actually a bit better today.  Last night as we were watching Easter Parade (one of my family's favorite Easter traditions) the sore throat and irritating cough morphed into body aches and chills with violent shaking, and I really thought I needed to go to the hospital.  I am never sick.  I guess I forgot what it feels like.  It stinks.

Anyway, no bike ride for me today, and until I have energy.

I am going to post some of the new WIP's I cast on last friday.  Then get to bed early.

1. Subtle Socks

These are for the SolidSocks and Sock Knitters Anonymous Groups on Ravelry.  The challenge for SKA is socks with a Literary Theme.  The SolidSocks color for April is yellow.  I am making Lyra's Socks by DXM Patterns (she is DeusXMachina on Ravelry).  They are based on the main character from Phillip Pullman's wonderful His Dark Materials trilogy.

I am using my new Miss Bab's Yummy Superwash Sock yarn in Squash Blossom.  It is indeed YUMMY!  Super wonderful feel as I knit.

I am knitting them 2aaT on size 2 Addi Turbo Lace Needles.  I have also added 4 stitches since I want these to fit over my heels.

2. Wedding Fish

Rather than make my nephew A socks for his wedding in June (I am giving his bride to be the Snuggly Socks), I decided to make him a fish hat!  He is an avid fisherman; has loved fishing since he was a kid.  I have loved this pattern since our good friend Jenknotsed8 from Eastside Stitchers  brought her fish hat project one Wednesday.  The pattern is called Fish Hat [Dead or Alive?] by Thelma Egberts and was first published in Knitty, Winter 2008.  I am knitting the lips in Red Cascade 220.  I have some Orange Cascade 220 but I think I might look for some other colors if I have enough energy to go shopping tomorrow or Wednesday, since I am not sure I want red and orange.  I'm thinking 2 colors of blue or green. 


3. Nana's Shawl

I finally cast on the March KAL for the Beginning Lace Knitters Group on Ravelry.  The pattern is Echo Flower Shawl by Jenny Johnson Johnen.  I watched the KAL thread as people knitted these beautiful shawls, and really wanted to make one for my mom.  She lives in Southern California, so doesn't wear mittens, gloves, hats, etc. but she does go to the theater and ballet a lot, and I thought a lacy shawl would be just right.  I am using this absolutely wonderful feeling Cascade Alpaca Lace yarn  in Cream.  I would have made it in some glorious color, but I knew she would want a neutral color, and so I called to double check, and yes she said, please make it in cream.  One of our LYS closed this winter, and I was able to snag this yarn at a nice price.  So far I have knit the first half of the set up section, so it doesn't look like much.  Well, because I am using lace weight yarn and size 5 needles, it kind of looks like Cat Barf.
