evening

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2eWDdTk

Another crazy week for me at work.  I was "observed" today, supposedly by the vice principal, only to see all 3 administrators watch my crazy construction lab.  I had the students explore triangle constructions by taking one of 4 different types of triangles (right, equilateral, obtuse and acute) then constructing perpendicular bisectors of each side.

One thing I love about teaching Gifted Geometry

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2eJMTjP

I just love my classes.  I love how my gifted students can be so serious.  When asked to define CPCTC (Corresponding Parts of Congruent Triangles are Congruent), this student wrote (my favorite postulate!)  I love that she has a "favorite postulate."

Mmm, see the moon!

I am having fun trying to catch a shot of the crescent moon in the morning through the clouds when I get home from working out.  I have to be ready and quick as it peeks out for only a few seconds, then is hidden again.

niacin's a thing

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2dL4oih

Hello:
Last night GwenS, TriGirlJ and I went to a taping of the podcast Pop Culture Happy Hour at the Neptune Theater in Seattle.  I love this podcast, and it was so much fun to see it in person.  Linda Holmes is a wonderful leader, and well I am just in love with Glenn Wheldon.  Their 4th chair was Audie Cornish, who is smart, funny, and well, just perfect.  At one point, I don't even remember what they were talking about, but Stephen Thompson, said something about Niacin in bananas being fake, and Audie Cornish said, "Fact Check!  Niacin is a thing."

Ok, it doesn't sound as funny here, but it was.

Spiral Plied Yarn!

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2deEAic

Hello:

I took a "Successful Plying" class at FiberFusion Northwest with Sarah Anderson today.  First, wow, what a lovely teacher.  Clear, interesting, kind, patient, and thorough.  We first tried to underply yarn, then overply, then find the sweet spot in the middle.  My "balanced" yarn looks a bit like my overplyed, but at least I have some understanding of where I am trying to go.

Then we plied some thick and thin yarn where you deliberately over ply then under ply in a pattern on the same skein.  Finally, we plied some "spiral ply" with really fat singles and some lace weight Merino.  I love how mine came out!

The third #orchid is opening!

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2e0QR9B

Hello:
The third bud on my orchid is opening.  I think it is so cool that you can see the petal pattern through the back of the petal.  The first two blossoms were about the same size.  This one should be smaller.  The last 2 buds are really small.  I hope they open, though, because it will be really neat to see miniature versions.

Twins!

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2e1loRO

Hello:
The second of my orchid blossoms opened!  Redbird1 gave me the plant when she moved, and it has been just the leaves for so long.  Then last summer, it put up a stalk, and the buds began to form.

I just love how beautiful it is.

#arneandcarlos #nordicknittingconference #famousknitters

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2dMkER9

Arne and Carlos of Knitted Balls, and other fun fun fun knitting books, taught a few classes at the Nordic Knitting Conference in Ballard (a neighborhood of Seattle) this weekend.  This conference happens every two years, and last time, they came too, and I didn't take a class because I thought, well, I already know how to make their Christmas Balls, but then I realized that it wasn't really about learning anything, just hanging out with them.

They were well worth hanging out with.  They are funny and fun and very unassuming.  They told stories about when they were fashion designers, and about their travels, and about just knitting in general.

I really reined it in and worked on my hat.  But I was really happy when Arne told me that my knitting looked very even.

Stranded colorwork hat

Hello:
Today at the Nordic Knitting Conference in Ballard (a neighborhood in Seattle), I took a class with Arne and Carlos to make a 4 color stranded hat.  Arne gave me some suggestions on how to knit more evenly (yay, because my stranded knitting is very lumpy looking), and I am really happy with how the hat is coming along.

Knitted braids

Hello:
ha ha ha for the class I took today on Knitted Braids at the Nordic Knitting Conference in Ballard (a neighborhood in Seattle), we were supposed to knit a 44 stitch 2 x 2 ribbing circle in a light color and then bring 3 contrasting colors.  Well, I brought black instead, and I just love how the colors look with it in the braids.

Hello:
It was really fun to see VanesaPolo's WackyWings shawlette on display at the Nordic Knitting Conference in Ballard.  Acorn Street Yarn Shop had a bunch of really pretty Zauberball's and I was tempted to buy one and knit another!

I was at the Meany Theater at the University of Washington tonight to watch the Mark Morris Dance Company perform a new piece, "Layla and Majnun."  All I can say is that it was mesmerizing.

It's opening!

Before she moved back to the other Eastside, Redbird1 gave me an orchid.

It is getting ready to bloom for the first time.  I am so excited.  I feel like I'm going to be an orchid parent and Redbird1 is the grandma!

Theyre here... #creepyclowns

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2dXRbpQ

 Hello:

While I was down in Oregon at Oregon Flock and Fiber Festival, I read this strange article on my newsfeed about creepy clowns terrorizing towns in the South.

Yes, you read that right.

The articles wondered if it was some kind of hoax, performance art, or... creepy clowns.

I did a quick search and found about 5 more articles of creepy clown sightings, and people calling the police to report clowns.

Well, the creepy clown movement has made it to Washington State.

Newest motif for my Crazypants Counterpane

Hello:
I am still working on my Crazypants Counterpane, motif by motif.  Lately, since I've been so swamped at work, I only seem to have the energy to make these tiny projects.  I guess it's good for the progress of my counterpane!

Caffeine. It's what keeps me going

via Instagram http://ift.tt/2cOTarL

Hello:
I have finished the third square of my Geek Afghan.  These wonderful doubleknitting charts are from Megan-Ann Llama of the Lattes and Llamas blog.   I kept seeing people in the Harry Potter Knitting Crochet House Cup turning in these squares, so I finally got my act together enough to check out the website, and wow, I have to make all the squares!

She has quite a few years' worth now, and the charts are all free.

I have made Superman, Batman, and now Caffeine.
